Antioch Baptist Church was just a small church of five little old ladies in 1996.
Douglas M. Cone (Doug) was a local liscensed minister who was a friend of one of the ladies husbands. He was asked to come as a guest speaker one Sunday in Nov. 96. Doug and his wife Jennifer had only been married for one month. After that first Sunday, the congregation asked that he return for the following Sunday. This church just simply had noone else to preach. Doug did and was asked to come back for a third sunday. The gentleman that had asked him in the first place usually delivered a sermon but wasnt feeling well. He was sure he would be back up to the challenge for the fourth Sunday. However, God had other plans. That gentleman unfortunately died before he could take back over the congregation. Doug was left with a defenseless church. So he decided to continue preaching until they found a minister. After 7 months Doug was still there. In support of his newly formed ministry, many family and friends began coming to Antioch. There was now a group of abot 20. The Church asked that doug be ordained and become the permanent pastor. He did this on June 29th 1997. The church continued to grow little by little. Some would come and some would leave. because we were so small, many left to seek bigger churches with more programs and events, but a few remained faithful. In May 1999, the first baby was born . Doug and Jennifer had a son, Hunter. Shortly thereafter the younger families in the church also began to add to the congregation in this same way. By January 2006, the church had grown to 34 members and 13children. Today this church still holds regular Sunday morning services. The hope that someday soon there will be enough members attending regularly to increase the services. If you visit this church you will find that it has a very casual and friendly atmosphere. Most of the members have grown up together in Savannah and are either friends or family of eachother. However, all are welcome . We sincerely hope that those looking for a simple and sincere service will join us one Sunday for a visit. Please come as you are.Added December 23, 2016 by A Google User
